When: 21st to 28th June
Details: Seven days celebrating the LGBT+ community in Soho, London.

Expect parades, performances and parties – the main parade takes place on Saturday, June 28 and finishes in Trafalgar Square.

When: 28th June and 3rd – 5th of July

Details: A hugely popular Finsbury Park festival, featuring hip hop, R&B and dance acts.

Make the most out of Manchester’s festivals

Parklife

When: June 6 until June 7

Details: Heaton Park is the venue for Manchester’s finest live music festival.

Superstar DJ’s Fatboy Slim and Mark Ronson take to the decks while Disclosure and Rudimental head the bill on the main stage.

FKA Twigs, George Ezra and the Wu Tang Clan are just some of the other acts in this strong two-day line up.

Manchester International Festival

When: June 7 to July 19

Details: This critically-acclaimed fortnight of performing and visual arts, along with popular culture, is a firm fixture in the festival calendar.

The MIF programme takes place in venues across Manchester but the main hub for free live entertainment, street food and pop up bars is Albert Square, renamed Festival Square for the fortnight, in the city centre.

The Lewis Carroll-inspired wonder.land featuring music by Blur’s Damon Albarn is worth a look.

Summer in the City

When: July 2, July 4 and July 11

Details: One of the most atmospheric venues in Manchester, this open-air amphitheatre will be rocking this summer.

Paolo Nutini, The Charlatans and local boy, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, headline each weekend.

Manchester Pride

When: August 28 to August 31

Details: Manchester’s Gay Village is the home of the “Big Weekend”

This year Scottish group, Texas, is one of the main music acts taking part in the event’s 25th birthday.

“Devotion” is the parade’s theme this year and you can download a map of the route from the website.

Edinburgh events this summer

Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

When: July 17 until July 26

Details: Having been around since 1978, this fabulous festival is all about spontaneity and world-class music.

Highlights in 2015 include the soul and jazz legend that is George Benson, the Edinburgh Festival Carnival and the best party in town – Mardi Gras at the Grassmarket.

The latter two events are just some of the free live music that can be enjoyed at this ten-day long fiesta.

Edinburgh International Festival

When: August 7 until August 31

Details: The globally recognised Edinburgh International Festival (EIF)  brings top class artists from around the world to Scotland’s capital.

The programme features a blend of opera, theatre, music and dance over the whole of August, so there is always something on to appeal to as diverse and audience as possible.

Comic operas featured include The Marriage of Figaro and Gilbert and Sullivan’s, H.M.S. Pinafore – and acclaimed dancer, Sylvie Guillem’s Life in Progress, is set to be festival favourite.

Juliette Binoche headlines in Greek Tragedy, Antigone, while pianist Lang Lang’s performances of Back and Tchaikovsky should be among the classical music highlights.

The event ends on August 31 with a Fireworks concert – with the rockets accompanied by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra – in Princes Street Gardens.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

When: August 7 until August 31

Details: One of the most famous festivals in the world, to take part all you need is a show and somewhere to put it on.

This means there are more than 2,000 acts of varying styles and sizes this year.

Many comedians have seen their careers launched at the fringe and Jo Brand and Frankie Boyle are just two of the famous faces returning to the stage.

You can see a Game of Thrones musical, a cabaret tribute to Dolly Parton and satirical play about Tony and Cherie Blair among other highlights.

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

When: August 7 until August 29

Details: Few venues can match the evocative Edinburgh Castle.

From the first haunting notes of the bagpipes to the relentless beat of the drums, this is a festival feast for all the senses.

The theme is set to be East Meets West and there will be percussion performances from all four corners of the planet.

Watch out for special guests, Switzerland’s Top Secret Drum Corps.

Liverpool summer festivals

Africa Oyé 2015

When: June 20 to June 21

Details: Sefton Park is the venue for the UK’s largest live African and Caribbean music event.

This free festival is headlined by Frankie Paul and Omar and expect Reggae, Salsa and Soca performances

International acts from Peru is South America to Senegal and Mali are set to appear.

The Oyé Village has authentic street food and drink, along with arts and crafts to browse and some child-friendly activities.

Brazilica parade

Brazilica 2015

When: July 17 to July 19

Details: The Samba beat takes to the Liverpool streets in this three-day Brazilian-themed festival.

The Brazilica nighttime parade, complete with thousands of dancers and floats, is on the Saturday night through Liverpool city centre.

Organised by charity, the Liverpool Carnival Company, this event has grown and now, in its 8th year, is bigger than ever before.

Liverpool Pride

When: August 1

Details: Liverpool’s Pier Head, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides the Pride hub for this day-long festival.

Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF)

When: August 27 to August 31

Details: Liverpool’s famous musical past, as well as its bright future, is showcased at the venues around the city

The highlight is the three-day Summer Jam finale in Liverpool’s Sefton Park.

Featuring Basement Jaxx, Echo and the Bunnymen, Katy B and Labrinth among others is free and you don’t need to book – just turn up the Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Creamfields

When: August 28 to August 30

Details: Expect banging Bank Holiday weekend beats at this dance music spectacular in the Cheshire countryside.

Brighton’s best festivals for the summer

Wild Life

When: June 6 to June 7

Details: This is the inaugural event and the south coast has attracted some big names.

Headliners Disclosure and Rudimental have personally curated a line up including George Ezra and the Wu-Tang Clan.

The venue at Brighton City Airport is out of town but you can get a shuttle bus back to either Brighton or Worthing after the shows.

Pride Brighton + Hove

When: August 1 to August 2

Details: Join the party and help celebrate 25 years of Brighton Pride.

There is a new parade route along the seafront on the Saturday, which starts at 11am and sees thousands of participants take part in the “Carnival of Diversity”.

Sheffield electric-pop band, The Human League, headline Pridel in Preston Park – which is ticketed and Brighton resident and superstar DJ, Fatboy Slim, is playing the Wild Fruit Big Top finale.

Shakedown

When: August 15

Details: This Dance music extravaganza takes place across four stages.

Because it’s set in the beautiful Waterhall grounds in the north of the city, it has more of a countryside vibe than many city festivals.

It’s all about that bass over at the Supercharged stage, with Sigma, Example and Mike Skinner on the bill.

The best House music will be on offer at the Defected stage with MK and Marc Kinchen among those appearing.

Birmingham’s summer festival scene

Supersonic

When: June 11 to June 14

Details: For something a little different, this experimental arts and music festival is worth a look.

The event features some of Birmingham’s more offbeat spaces and a mixture of local talent and international acts.

The opening concert at the Victorian Grade II listed, Birmingham Town Hall, features  the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble, put together by the Goldfrapp producer, Will Gregory, and also featuring Portishead’s Adrian Utley.

Birmingham Caribbean Festival

When: June 18 to June 20

Details: Head to Centenary Square in the heart of Birmingham for this colourful and cultural Caribbean festival.

Funk, Calypso, Soca, Jazz, R’n’B and Reggae are all represented and this year there will also be Gospel and drumming.

Along with the music, you can try authentic street food and some fine rum punch while taking a look at the arts and craft stalls surrounding the square.

When: July 3 to July 12

Details: You can choose from more than 150 performances in 40 Birmingham venues over the festival fortnight.

You can watch trad jazz at a stately home or some blues on a boat.

Many of the events are free and musicians include local talent and acts from the USA, and Europe among others.
